Job Description

The Director of Proposals is responsible for preparing timely and accurate responses to customer RFQs. This entails processing the RFQ, analyzing the RFQ requirements, deadlines and assisting with specific tasks as instructed by CEO. The incumbent will be responsible to work closely with the program managers, procurement and other internal staff on all proposal activities (e.g., preparation of bills of materials, procurement cost estimates, labor cost estimates, manufacturing plans and associated costs, etc.) to ensure that bid(s) are submitted per customer requirements. The incumbent will be responsible for all aspects of the proposal process.

Essential Functions

  • Analyze customer solicitation/RFI/RFQ/RFP documents

  • Based on customer provided data (models, drawings, etc.) develop an understanding of the manufacturing methods and material required to produce the product

  • Develop a detailed Bill of Material and estimate assembly hours and detail part costs

  • Obtain pricing information via historical system data and/or new quotations

  • Analyze supplier quotes for scope and negotiate pricing when necessary

  • Collect appropriate data from various internal departments to prepare pricing and proposals

  • Negotiate with customers to definitize pricing and facilitate customer issuance of contracts based on RFP responses and in some cases Cost and Pricing data

  • Establish budgets & assist with PAR meetings where customer contracts are handed off to the Program Management team for execution

  • Ensure the flow of work meets the customer’s requirements in terms of schedule and quality expectations

  • Write volumes in response to customer RFQs

  • Provide managements reports as necessary

  • Other duties and assignments as requested for the overall performance of the company.

Qualifications

  • 7-10+ years’ experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in a field such as Business, Finance, Accounting or Engineering, or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Strong command of Microsoft Office programs, particularly Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, etc.).

  • Advanced understanding of manufacturing and ability to interpret engineering

  • Proficient in all commodities and manufacturing methods

  • Experience in ERP systems within a manufacturing environment

  • Ability and willingness to work overtime as needed to support aggressive proposal schedules

  • Accountable for deadlines

  • Self-motivated; takes initiative

  • Proactive and organized

  • Strong critical thinking skills

  • Strong numerical analysis skills and be able to communicate the results of such analyses both verbally and in written form

  • Work well in a team environment and be able to communicate clear instructions and schedules to team members so that proposals can be prepared as efficiently as possible

  • Superior time management skills and be comfortable with handling multiple assignments at the same time, prioritizing the assignments and delegating work to others

The salary range for this position is : $130,000-$160,000. Actual compensation will be dependent upon the individual's skills, experience, qualifications and other factors allowed by law. Individuals are not typically hired at or near the top of the salary range.
